Title:
User can not edit attachments and when impersonated by admin error code shows
Error code: 937F8C0B-B6F5-4329-F1E5-2BBA554BC16A
Problem
Organizations often need to edit Microsoft Office files (.docx, .xlsx, .doc, .xls) and OpenOffice formats (ODS, OTD) attached to Jira issues. Common requirements include direct editing of these files, maintaining compatibility with Microsoft Office applications, enabling change tracking, controlling edit permissions, and ensuring auditability or versioning of document changes.
Application
Atlassian Platform: Jira
Product: ikuTeam Office for Jira
Environment: Jira Cloud
Solution
Editing Office Attachments
ikuTeam Office for Jira allows direct editing of Microsoft Office and OpenOffice file formats attached to Jira issues.
No file conversion is required; edits are saved in the original file format.
Edited files remain fully compatible with Microsoft Office applications and can be downloaded for offline editing.
Enabling Change Tracking
Change tracking can be activated for any document, similar to the functionality in Microsoft Word.
To enable track changes:
Open the document for editing via ikuTeam Office.
Activate the "track changes" feature for all users.
Save and close the document.
Subsequent edits will be tracked automatically when the file is reopened.
Versioning and Audit Trail
Jira Cloud does not natively support attachment versioning. When a file is edited, the previous version is overwritten and cannot be restored.
All edits are auditable through the Jira Work Item history, which records who edited attachments and when.
For organizations requiring file versioning and recovery, consider using the ikuTeam Files app. This app stores attachments on external cloud services (such as SharePoint, OneDrive, Google Drive, Box, or Dropbox) and supports versioning and recovery of previous file versions.
Restricting Edit Permissions
Jira permissions can be configured to control which users or groups can edit or delete attachments.
To restrict editing:
Navigate to Jira Settings.
Set attachment permissions to define which users or groups can delete (and thus edit) attachments.
Users or groups without "delete" permissions will not be able to edit attachments using the ikuTeam Office app.
For more information, refer to Atlassian’s documentation:

Setting Attachments to Read-Only
Jira does not provide a bulk operation to set all attachments to "ReadOnly."
Edit restrictions should be managed through Jira’s permission settings as described above.
Best Practice Recommendation
For organizations with strict audit or compliance requirements, it is recommended to use external file storage with versioning (such as the ikuTeam Files app) to ensure recoverability and traceability of document changes.
