Learn how to preview and edit native attachments on Jira. No downloads and re-uploads are required. |
About the preview and edit
This page will cover how to preview and edit Jira native attachments files using the Team Files app.
The Team Files app lets you preview and edit files on your issues. You can preview and edit the most common Office document formats and preview PDF documents and popular image formats.
Preview Files and Documents
When you have native attachments in your Jira issues, they appear automatically in Team Files when you add the app to the issue.
You can preview all your Jira Native Attachments using Team Files, which supports full-screen preview and an inline preview where you can actually see and read the content, unlike Jira’s thumbnails. Click the icon or name of the file you want to open the preview for the full-screen preview or see the inline preview by clicking the disclosure button.
Edit Microsoft Office Files
You can edit Microsoft Office files directly from your issues. No need to download them to your computer or re-uploading multiple copies.
To edit a file, click the edit button from the file details or the full-screen preview header. There's also an autosave feature, so you can close the tab when you finish.

A real-time co-edit session will start if two or more users click Edit simultaneously. |
Open Office files are also supported and work the same way as Microsoft Office documents, using the Microsoft 365 editor, but do not support real-time collaboration.
Layout options
All the layout options from Team Files are now available for your Jira Native Attachments, greatly expanding what’s possible in Jira. You can select the option to open the preview immediately when you open a Jira issue, customize the preview area, change the header style or hide it completely. Check Customizing the layout for more details.
Disabling the support for Jira Native Attachments
If you don’t want to use this feature for any reason, you can disable the option in the “Layout” menu.
Click the “Layout” button
Click the toggle to turn the option off.
Click the “Save” button to apply the changes.
Admins can also turn it off for all issues in the Admin settings. For more details, please check the Admin settings documentation.
