Preview and edit Jira native attachments [TF JD]

Learn how to preview native attachments on Jira.

About the preview

This page will cover how to preview Jira native attachments files using the Team Files app.

The Team Files app lets you preview Office files (documents, spreadsheets, and presentations), PDF files, and popular image formats on your pages.

Preview Files and Documents

When you have native attachments in your Jira issues, they appear automatically in Team Files.

You can preview all your Jira Native Attachments using Team Files, which supports full-screen preview and an inline preview where you can actually see and read the content, unlike Jira’s thumbnails. Click the icon or name of the file you want to open the preview for the full-screen preview or see the inline preview by clicking the disclosure button.

Layout options

All the layout options from Team Files are now available for your Jira Native Attachments, greatly expanding what’s possible in Jira. You can select the option to open the preview immediately when you open a Jira issue, customize the preview area, change the header style or hide it completely. Check Customizing the layout for more details.

Disabling the support for Jira Native Attachments

If you don’t want to use this feature for any reason, you can disable the option in the “Layout” menu.

  1. Click the “Layout” button

  2. Click the toggle to turn the option off.

  3. Click the “Save” button to apply the changes.

Supported file formats for preview

  • Images: GIF, JPG, JPEG, and PNG

  • PDF documents (including password-protected files)

Preview of unsupported files

  1. Return to the file manager

  2. Document information

  3. Download

  4. Open in [Storage]

The Team Files app can preview many popular file types, but not all of them. When you try to preview a file type not specified above, the preview window will open with the message "No preview available" and a "Download" button so that you can open it with your desktop apps.
